As well as replacing stock on the shelves and keeping the library in good order, the job involves using the library computer system to control the circulation of library stock. Good computer skills in packages such as MS office will be important, along with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude towards training and personal development from induction onwards.

You should have an interest in working with children as this post involves promoting our work with local schools and delivering children’s activities. You may also be required to assist with Computer Learning sessions.

You will need to have public library experience, as the job includes responsibility for offering information services and basic ICT support to library users; supervising and training other staff; and on occasion to be responsible for building security.

With Redhill library open 55 hrs per week, staff may be asked to change work patterns to cover for sickness etc, so you will also need a flexible approach. Literate, numerate and able to work under pressure, you must also be a good team player and, above all, committed to delivering high quality customer care.
