NEWHAM’S GOT AMBITION – HAVE YOU?
Located in brand new state of the art riverside offices, Newham is an exciting, diverse and fast changing borough in the throes of an exciting phase of regeneration and renewal that we want Legal Services to be at the heart of. As the host borough for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics games, it will become increasingly high profile over the coming years as new development revitalises the Borough even further. With your help, we can take our team forward and help the Council achieve and deliver excellence.
We are currently seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following vacant position within Legal Services:
Senior Law Clerk – Enforcement Team
You will work within the Enforcement Team which plays a key role in realising the Council’s vision of making Newham a place where people choose to live and work. The team deals with a variety of regulatory enforcement matters including prosecutions for fly-tipping, unlicensed street trading, under-age sales, fraud, and sub-standard private sector housing. The team also supports the Council in its efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Proven knowledge and experience of regulatory enforcement, criminal law and of tackling anti-social behaviour issues using a range of civil powers including ASBO’s, injunctions and possession proceedings is essential. You should have advocacy experience as the post entails regular advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court.
If you wish to have an informal discussion please contact Momtaz Begum on 0203 373 9290 or e-mail
Newham Legal Services is IIP and LEXCEL accredited and the Council is
rated a 3-Star ‘good’ authority under the Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) with the ambition to go even further.
As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.
The Council reserves the right to close adverts early if there is a large response.
Equal Opportunities
The London Borough of Newham recognises that everyone in Newham has the right to play a full part in the life of the borough. This means that everyone should have equal access to council services, job opportunities and to having their voices heard.
It is the council’s position that everyone should be treated fairly, without discrimination and with respect of their human rights, regardless of their gender, race, age, disability, sexual orientation, HIV status, religion, national or social origin or class.
