SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Title: Risk Manager
Responsible for:
Supporting the embedding of Risk Management processes across the Council, maintaining the Corporate Risk Register.
Managing the Council’s insurance policies including maintaining the self insurance fund
Job purpose:
This is a new role created to support the embedding of a risk management culture across the Council. The post holder will need to liaise extensively with both senior management and operational managers to develop and operate sound and consistent risk management processes across all services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1.To maintain the Corporate Risk Register, co-ordinating regular updates from Service Heads and presenting reports to Audit & Governance Committee;
2. To develop an understanding of Service risk management processes and promote the sharing of best practice across the Council;
3. To develop the collection of regular updates to Service risk registers and linkages to the Corporate Register and risk overview;
4. To keep up to date with risk management issues relevant to Local Government and incorporate into the Council’s risk processes as appropriate;
5. To prepare self-assessments against Use of Resources criteria for risk management and implement the resulting action plan to achieve improved scores;
6. To liaise with internal and external audit on risk issues;
7. To manage the Council’s insurance policies including maintaining the self insurance fund;
8. To contribute to the work of the whole Finance team and undertake any other duties designated by the Financial Accounting Manager commensurate with the grade of the role and the experience of the post holder;
