An independent panel must review and make recommendations to the Council on allowances paid to Councillors.
To help raise and maintain public confidence in the democratic process, persons from a variety of backgrounds to represent the diverse communities of the county, who do not have any specific political affiliations and are not related to any County Councillor must be appointed to the panel by the Council .
Currently, the panel undertakes this work annually and to ensure membership continuity on the panel, periods of office are normally over 3 years. Expenses will be paid to those appointed to the panel.
To be considered you will need to:
- Be aged over 21
- Be on the electoral register
- Understand how councils work although this is not essential
- Not work for the County Council
- Not be an elected member of any local authority
