The successful candidate will have an opportunity to contribute to the political leadership at the LGA, provide direct support to councillors individually, in groups on their respective authorities, and through regional networks and an annual conference, and gain an in-depth understanding of how local councils work and the relationships between central and local government. He or she will help to raise the profile of Independent and smaller political party councillors and will need to be able to grasp the range of political views and approaches among our group members as well as cross party working in the LGA.

The successful applicant will work across a range of administrative and research based projects in a very busy office, often with tight deadlines to meet, manage the content of our group website to a very high standard, and deal with a wide range of enquiries into the group office whether in person, by letter, email or on the telephone. You will often be the first point of contact for the Independent group and need to be able to assess and deal with enquiries in a timely, accurate, and most appropriate way in order to maintain and enhance our group’s reputation.

The LGA is committed to raising the profile of Local Government, and ensuring that local councils have the resources and powers to support their communities most effectively. The Independent Group is pleased to have a lead role in the collective effort. This is a terrific opportunity for an energetic, committed, and politically aware candidate. Training opportunities are available to help you succeed.
