Planning Officer (Maternity cover to October 2010)

Salary: £24,840 to £30,325 pa plus essential car user allowance
Dorking, Surrey

37 hours per week

Mole Valley is a beautiful district in the Green Belt with a large number of conservation areas and listed buildings. It is under considerable pressure because of its location in relation to the M25, Gatwick, Heathrow and London. The Authority operates firm restraint policies in line with its adopted Local Plan. We currently have a need for maternity cover until at least October 2010 with the possibility of this contract being extended for up to a year until May 2011.

We are looking to appoint a Planner to join our team. We are committed to providing a high quality planning service and we see development control as pivotal to our aims. The post offers an excellent grounding in development control.

It is likely that the appointee has already worked in a planning service and has experience of determining a demanding workload of planning applications to strict deadlines. Such work to include all planning aspects of applications from initial advice to handling any subsequent appeal. The successful candidate will carry out their duties against a background of sensitive communication with the whole range of planning customers. A well organised and thorough approach to often conflicting issues will contribute to this integral member of the DC Team.

The duties of this post require travel throughout the Mole Valley area for which an essential car user allowance will be paid.
