Give us the legal picture, so we can keep Reigate and Banstead picturesque.
Reigate and Banstead is one of the most attractive and historic boroughs in England. You’ll help us to keep it that way, as you provide a comprehensive planning law service and act as the Council’s main advocate at planning enquiries and in court.
You need to be able to “hit the ground running” in terms of advocacy and all aspects related to planning enforcement advice. This is an extremely responsible and challenging position as you may also be required to draft and negotiate section 106 agreements and execute unilateral undertakings, advising generally on planning issues, to attend Planning Committees and other Members’ meetings.
You must be able to balance a significant workload whilst ensuring you provide an excellent service. You’ll be a Team player, keen to support colleagues, maintain and develop excellent relationships with them and contribute to developing more efficient and effective ways of working and so support continuous improvement of the services provided by the Council.
A qualified solicitor or barrister with rights of audience, you will bring extensive practice experience in planning law and broad knowledge of current developments affecting local government. Delivering a high -class legal service should be second nature to you, and you will be extremely ICT-literate, exceptionally commercially astute and capable of communicating and presenting persuasively.
