Job Description:

Contract: Permanent – Part-Time- 28 hours

Salary: £30,345 – £31,935 (SO2) per annum for a 35hr week. As this role is 28hrs a week this salary will be pro-rata

Location: St Pancras Coroners Court – Camley Street, London. N1C 4PP. You may also be required to on occasion travel and work from their site in Tower Hamletts, Poplar.

Team: Coroner’s Service

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Personal Assistant with excellent typing skills to join the Coroner’s Service. The Coroner’s service comprises four boroughs of Camden, Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamletts – the Coroner is an independent judicial officer and the officers are Met Police staff.

As the Personal Assistant you will provide co-ordinated legal secretarial and administrative assistance to the Coroner including responses to legal submissions in line with inquest procedures and evidence reviews. You will be required to type confidential and general correspondence, reports, press releases and technical medico-legal documents to a high level of accuracy and within agreed timelines. You will need to have strong organisational skills to maintain, distribute and organise case management reports and statements for the Coroners offices across two sites and integrate the court listing diaries to avoid conflicting appointments.

Key Requirements

Qualifications/Knowledge:

  • Audio-typing knowledge is essential (80wpm)
  • ILEX qualification is desirable but not essential
  • High level of literacy and numeracy
  • Strong knowledge of current word-processing and database systems
  • Knowledge of basic coronial law and procedures would be advantageous

Skills/Behaviours:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing at all levels with both internal and external contacts
  • Ability to prioritise workloads to meet agreed deadlines and have a proactive approach
  • Have a calm and sympathetic manner when dealing with distressed people whilst fulfilling the requirements of the role

Experience:

  • A medical/legal background is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong background in personal assistance activities involving confidential material
  • Experience of working in an environment that involves accidents, trauma and death is desirable due to the nature of work involved
