Location Chatham and Rochester

Supporting the running of a youth project, planning and developing projects and activities with young people that enable them to develop and achieve in line with the youth work curriculum.

Youth workers support and signpost young people to deal with issues they experience and are expected to develop social education programmes that are inclusive, educative and participative.

Youth workers are expected to challenge young people to think about their values and attitude and manage behaviour as appropriate.

Person Specification

You will have/ be:

An accepted youth work qualification or other similar educational qualifications

Demonstrable training or experience in a curriculum area such as arts and creativity, sports and recreation, health and well-being, community participation, global and environmental issues or independent living.

Demonstrable understanding of young people and the issues that may affect them

Demonstrable experience and understanding of social education

The ability to feel confident working with young people and supporting them to make progress that is relevant and beneficial to meeting their needs

The ability to evaluate youth work progress

The ability to develop supportive relationships with young people

The ability to communicate in a manner, which is easily understood and tailored to meet the needs of the audience.

Demonstrable experience of identifying potential problems and taking appropriate action.

The ability to take ownership of work and fulfill agreed commitments, checking work for accuracy.

The ability to think about alternative ways of doing things and being open to new work practices and responsive to change.

A commitment to equality and diversity, seeking to remove barriers that may prevent people accessing services.

The ability to contribute to team plans and objective setting, initiating ideas for managing their own and others workloads.

The ability to demonstrate a wide understanding of customer needs and being able to manage their expectations.

Demonstrable experience of coping well under pressure and difficult situations, able to identify and act on own development needs.
