This is an exciting and very challenging post for someone looking to join a local authority that is forward thinking and is actively pursuing recognition for the excellence of its public services.
You will have direct experience of health and safety issues preferably having already gained experience in a previous health and safety role. You will be responsible for leading on practical health and safety matters within the authority and for The Councils’ health and safety policies. You will conduct assessments, liaise with and support staff across the council, advise senior managers and lead our departmental health and safety representatives.
You will also be a member of a small team of officers responding to civil emergencies (for which additional training will be given) and be prepared to attend emergency incidents during out of normal office hours, for which an additional payment is made.
You will be a member of IOSH or hold an equivalent professional qualification.
You should be self-motivated and have excellent communication, inter-personal and organisational skills. You should have experience of working as part of a team and have the ability to attend civil contingencies incidents alongside the emergency services, often having to work using your own initiative and make decisions on behalf of the Council in a calm, confident and professional manner. You must also hold a full current driving licence.
