Tower Hamlets Council has just achieved a prestigious 4-star rating and Children’s Services were judged as “outstanding” in the Joint Area Review of Children’s Services that took place at the same time.

Working with our partners, one of our key commitments is to develop a comprehensive range of services to support parents, because we know that parents, carers and families are the most important influence on outcomes for children and young people. We are pioneering a range of initiatives, some of which have grown out of national projects, such as the Parenting Early Intervention Pathfinder, while others have been developed locally, eg the Passport to Learning (a record of achievement for parents).

In order to support schools in becoming a hub of services for parents we have created four new posts for Parent Support Co-ordinators (one for each pair of LAPs). These experienced parenting practitioners will inspire and motivate front-line staff (Parent Support Advisers) to respond to parents’ needs and to engage them in their children’s learning and development. Significant experience of working in schools and offering individual and group support to parents/carers is essential.

We would particularly welcome applications from those who have experience of delivering structured parenting programmes and/or parent workshops. The posts will involve working with a cluster of schools and with Extended Schools Cluster Co-ordinators in order to deliver the Extended Schools Core Offer to parents.

Interviews for the post will be held on 3rd December 2008. For an informal discussion about the posts please contact Jill McGinley on 020 7364 4946.

Tower Hamlets is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A CRB enhanced disclosure that is satisfactory to us will be a condition of appointment.

Equal Opportunities

We shall ensure fairness and equal opportunities throughout our workforce and in service delivery. We welcome applications from suitably skilled candidates regardless of ethnicity, gender, disability, sexuality, religion or age.
