This is an interesting and varied post supporting the Leader of
the Opposition and the Liberal Democrat Group. Your work will
include co-ordinating the Leader of the Opposition’s activities
and maintaining effective communication throughout the Liberal
Democrat Councillor Group, the Council and the wider community.
This will involve undertaking research for the Group, preparing
reports and briefings and providing advice and support to all
Liberal Democrat Councillors on a variety of issues. The post
holder will also be responsible for organising and managing the
Liberal Democrat Group meetings.
You’ll be highly motivated with exceptional communication skills,
working with a wide range of contacts including Members, Senior
Officers, external bodies, the media and individuals. You’ll need to
be able to work in the strictest confidence, have sound judgement,
assimilate and analyse data quickly and establish positive working
relationships with Members and Officers. You’ll also have good
written, oral and IT skills. Knowledge of how Local Government
works is desirable and an understanding of Liberal Democrat policies and values is essential. Hours of work will include the requirement to attend meetings out of normal working hours. This post is subject to political restriction in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
