Location We have several sites throughout the district e.g. Kelham Hall - HQ, Leisure Centres at Southwell, Balderton, Ollerton, Blidworth, Tourist Info Centres @ Newark and Ollerton, Museum, Castle and Theatre in Newark, Cashier’s office – Town Hall in Newark, Waste and Transport Depot and Lorry Park in Newark together with several parks and open spaces throughout Newark and District.

Newark & Sherwood District Council is embarking on a major transformation of its Museum service following a successful first round application to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

At the centre of this ambitious plan is the restoration of the Old Magnus Buildings, a Grade II*listed complex of Tudor, Victorian and Georgian buildings in the heart of the Newark conservation area. Our plans, if successful, will see this magnificent set of buildings re-open as a new museum in 2013, featuring objects from our existing collections and a new centre for the study of the English Civil War.

We are looking for a motivated, experienced museum professional to work alongside our existing museums team, key stakeholders and partners to deliver our ambition. You will possess a detailed understanding of best practice within the heritage sector and experience of the strategic development of museums. You must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to forge a range of sustainable partnerships with a wide variety of partners. Ideally you will also have experience of major capital projects and fundraising.

This post is offered initially on a 12 month contract, with potential to extend for further two years, dependent on securing of external funding. It could also be considered as a secondment opportunity.
