Contract – Permanent, full time

Location: Town Hall Extension, Argyle Street, WC1H 8NP

Camden Council currently has a new opportunity for a Nature Conservation Officer to join their Parks and Open Spaces team.

Role purpose:

To be lead officer for the Council in all matters relating to nature conservation and biodiversity.

To provide specialist advice to ensure appropriate regard for nature conservation and biodiversity.

To lead, prepare and act as the lead officer for all aspects of the Camden Biodiversity Action Plan and the Partnership.

Provide guidance on planning applications to the planning department

Provide strategic direction in relation to biodiversity and conservation, feeding into Camden Parks and Open Spaces business planning

About you:

We are looking for a strong influencer and strategic thinker who understands how biodiversity can be improved by working with internal and external customers to put in place the mechanisms needed to enable delivery.

You will have a strong understanding of legislation relating to biodiversity specifically in London and a planning context.

You will bring new ideas and fresh thinking to the post.

Role Requirements

  • Degree in a related subject (i.e. conservation management / natural resource management / ecology)
  • Knowledge of nature conservation policy and strategy.
  • Adaptability
  • Creative thinking
  • Analysis and Judgement.
  • Ability to deliver independently while bringing value to the Parks and Open Spaces management team
  • Proven experience of developing funding bids and bringing in external funding for nature conservation
  • Commenting and advising on planning applications and development proposals
  • Experience of working with external partners and organisations
