We are looking for a Skills Coach to join the newly established Multi Dimensional Treatment Foster Care, for Middle Childhood (MTFC-C) team.
MTFC is an evidence-based approach, developed in the USA at the Oregon Social Learning Centre, aimed at improving outcomes for children looked after aged between 7 and 11.
The purpose is to enable children with complex emotional, behavioural and developmental needs to be placed in short term treatment foster care placements for between 9-12 months, where they will be supported to learn the skills needed to live within a family setting on a permanent basis – either returning to live with birth families or moving on to permanence through adoption or fostering.
The MTFC approach combines high levels of supervision with very positive parenting practices where children will experiences a highly positive, attentive and stimulating family environment. This will include specifying clear expectations about expected behaviors, the application of consistent rules and rewards systems for good behaviour and achievements.
The Skills Coach will undertake weekly sessions with all MTFC-C children to enable them to develop problem solving skills through intensive one to one interactions and to learn new skills for forming relationships with peers and adults in the home (placement), school and community. Skill coaching areas will be directly related to the goals of each child’s individual treatment plan and will include behaviour management, communication, coping and problem solving skills.
The Skills Coach will be part of a multi disciplinary team that includes a Programme Supervisor (Psychologist), Foster Carers, Education Worker, Foster Carer Recruiter, Family Therapist and Programme manager.
MTFC- C is a new and exciting service that offers the opportunity to make a real difference to children’s lifes.
