Following the retirement of the current post-holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join Waltham Forest as the Mayor’s Chauffeur/Attendant.
This is a pivotal role providing support to the Mayoralty in Waltham Forest. Your duties will include driving the Mayor (and occasionally the Deputy Mayor) to civic and ceremonial engagements in the Borough and, sometimes, elsewhere in London and the South East.
As well as accompanying the Mayor you will attend to guests in the Mayor’s Parlour, and ensure that the Mayor is properly robed and wearing the correct Civic Regalia at formal events. You will have the role of macebearer at very formal occasions and be responsible for cleaning and upkeep of the Civic Regalia.
Existing knowledge of civic and ceremonial protocols is desirable although training will be provided. Your duties will bring you into contact with a wide range of people and the ability to also present yourself at all times in a courteous and respectful manner, reflecting the dignity and status of the Mayoralty is important.
First class driving skills and a clean driving licence are essential. You will also be required to carry out basic daily routine maintenance of the Mayoral vehicle and keep the vehicle clean at all times.
You will need to be flexible in respect of working hours, as many engagements are held in the evening and weekends and sometimes at short notice. You will work an average of up to 36 hours per week (plus leave entitlement) although actual hours could be negotiated and will vary from week to week. The post would be particularly suitable for people who wish to job share.
If you think you might be interested in the position, and would like an informal discussion, please contact Lynn Rackley, extension 0208 496 4516 or Steve Myhill extension 0208 496 4399.
Interview Date: Week commencing 5 March 2012
