WELCOME TO THE TEES VALLEY

Tees Valley is going places and is looking for an inspirational individual to lead the way.

Home to the UK’s largest integrated heavy industrial area, containing petrochemicals, energy and industrial biotechnology plants of a global scale, together with Teesport, the third largest port in the UK, the Tees Valley has significant strengths to build on.

An ambitious development programme of flagship sites spanning five local authority areas is transforming the landscape, creating the ideal environment for new investment. Major assets underpin this potential, including: the market town and mainline rail links of Darlington; the marina facilities and business incubation space in Hartlepool, the cultural and retail offer and Teesside University in Middlesbrough; the rural and coastal splendour or Redcar & Cleveland and the engineering firms and business connectivity of Stockton.

The area has also recently submitted a bid to the Government to become a Local Enterprise Partnership – if successful, this could see Tees Valley being given additional responsibilities for functions including planning and housing, transport and infrastructure and supporting the move towards a low carbon economy.

Tees Valley Unlimited

Tees Valley Unlimited (TVU) is the unique public, private and voluntary sector partnership that is helping to shape Tees Valley’s future.

With a bold ‘Statement of Ambition’ TVU is firmly focused on maximising the economic potential of the area by overcoming barriers to growth and capitalising on its inherent strengths. Responsible for developing the high-level strategy that will influence the delivery of economic programmes primarily delivered by other partners, TVU aims to define the phasing and scale of activity and, where required, commission work itself.

In setting out its ambition TVU aims to support the achievement of the following outcomes over the next 15 years:

  • Increase the Tees Valley’s GVA per head from its current level of 75% of the national average to 82%
  • Reduce the gap in unemployment numbers with the national average by 60%
  • Create 1,000 new businesses over the existing trend, and
  • Increase the number of people with high level skills by 5%

Managing Director

A review of TVU’s core functions, governance and staffing arrangements is currently underway to ensure the organisation is ‘fit for purpose’ in a more challenging financial climate. As part of this, the partners in TVU are looking to appoint a Managing Director to take forward this review and ensure TVU operates where it can add real value and where there is a sub-regional need.

Working to a Leadership Board, you will act as a catalyst for change; influencing key areas of economic development to ensure the Tees Valley takes full advantage of its unique opportunities.

You will have a proven track-record of leading the formulation and delivery of strategic objectives and working in partnership to achieve measurable results. A motivating and enthusiastic leader, you will be experienced in managing teams to realise significant and sustainable improvements.

Forging and maintaining successful relationships with a wide range of internal and external organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors, you will be an inspiring champion for the Tees Valley.

As such, this is a unique opportunity for an outstanding individual to make a positive impact on all those who live, work, study, invest and visit the Tees Valley.
