Job type: One year fixed term (with the possibility of extending for a further 2 years) Salary: £ 40,716 p.aLocation: Newham Dockside London E16 2QU
Newham has unique regeneration opportunities that are unrivalled in Europe. The transformation of the Royal Docks, Canning Town and Custom House, the creation of a new Metropolitan Centre in Stratford and delivery of the Olympics legacy will create real and lasting improvements for generations to come.
The Strategic Regeneration, planning and Olympics’ legacy is a key new Division within Newham’s Council to deliver these improvements.
The objective of the project is to:
Develop the provision of a new or improved leisure facility on the Atherton Leisure Centre site which has an estimated cost of £15m.
· Provide high quality leisure facilities that better serve the leisure needs of Newham residents and support the Council’s Active and Connected Strategy.
· Redevelop the whole of the existing site with an appropriate mixture of buildings and uses that contribute positively to the local area.
· Plan the continuous use and minimise disruption to existing users of the centre.
· Minimise capital expenditure required for the project without compromising on build quality.
Newham’s Council needs to recruit a highly accomplished, experienced and successful senior project manager to deliver the Atherton Leisure Centre in Newham. You’ll have substantial experience and track record in delivering large complex capital projects, managing large contracts, project management methodology skills, including experience of using MS project, be able to deliver within a pressurised environment and able to report at Senior level to the Mayor of Newham and Members.
You should also be able to demonstrate the ability to co-ordinate internal and external stakeholders. You will be required to have a sound understanding of the development process, complex budget management, extensive procurement experience, knowledge of managing different types of risks associated with the development of the scheme including English heritage issues and their implications, a clear understanding of the governance structures and stakeholder management that will be in place you will also have experience in managing relationships and resolving conflicts in a highly political environment.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in managing large complex capital projects from pre-construction through to delivery to the client, taking the overall responsibility of delivery throughout the process.
You will be involved at all stages of the project including design & pre-construction, construction and close out to meet all contractual requirements.
This is a new project however progress has been made in relation to cabinet approvals, project governance arrangements, public consultations and communications strategy.
