About the role

The City Fringe, Whitechapel, Canary Wharf, the Isle of Dogs and the Olympic Legacy, together with London’s most ambitious targets for homes and jobs in one of its most diverse boroughs…it’s all happening in Tower Hamlets.

Our Planning service has a track record of negotiating affordable housing and delivering infrastructure that makes a difference to our communities. With an extensive river frontage, 58 conservation areas, hundreds of listed buildings and the Tower of London World Heritage Site, together with the highest growth rate in the country - Tower Hamlets is without doubt one of the most exciting places to develop your career in planning.

This role provides a rare career-making opportunity to hone your skills and shape the production of the Local Plan, arguably the most important in the country, as well as have a major input into the London Plan.

This is also an ideal time for you to join us. Our plan is now at its most exciting stage in its development. You will play a fundamental role in setting the tone of the plan with a view to producing the next draft late Summer/early Autumn, taking it through to successful adoption and implementation within the next 12 to 15 months.

In this high-profile role you will regularly update the Mayor and also attend meetings to shape the London Plan, with ample opportunities to make a difference in this pivotal role.

About you

You will be suitably qualified, with considerable expertise in National Planning Policy and experience of either leading on, or supporting Local Plan or Area Action Plan processes.

You will come with excellent project management skills, together with effective report writing skills and the ability to present to a range of audiences.

Also key to your success will be your ability to negotiate, mediate and find solutions.

Application Process

We wish to make the application process as straightforward as possible and we just ask that you complete our online application form providing further information against a couple of specific questions. You are also welcome to attach your CV, if you have one to further support your application.
