When it comes to street cleaning, our residents expect nothing short of perfection. So we have to look after our streets as if they were part of their homes. This is a real challenge in the most densely populated borough in the UK, and with a huge number of people visiting our wonderful museums and world-famous shops and markets.
If you are an experienced manager who can stay resilient and friendly in the face of constant demands for the very highest standards of service, you may be right for this high-profile job. You can expect to be dealing with Councillors daily, sorting out difficult problems on behalf of their very diverse voters. You will be able to handle yourself well whether you are standing in the middle of Portobello Market, or talking to one of our many celebrity residents.
You will be experienced in managing partnership contracts, and good at handling large budgets. You will relish the challenge of running a successful commercial waste business. You will want to see our lively street markets prosper. You will be committed to carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and to achieving outstanding levels of recycling. You will be the Council’s professional lead on waste management, but will also want to get involved in corporate priorities.
