As the leader of a strong team of human resource professionals you will be responsible for the provision of a first class people service to a council employing in excess of 10,000 staff.

Walsall Council’s new Working Smarter priority is about focussing on the needs of our customers and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the way we work. It will mean a radical overhaul of how we do our business in the modern world. You will play a key part in this strategy by facilitating change management initiatives to support and position People Services to meet the challenges ahead.

People Services will be a critical supplier of services and advice to individual staff, managers and the corporate management team in order to enable positive people and performance outcomes within Walsall Council, for our partners and for the community.

Our vision for People Services is based on the principles of maximising staff competencies and capabilities, focusing on personal behaviour as well as functional skills, supporting and embracing high performance work systems with people openly seeking and giving helpful feedback. To be successful we will need People Services staff to have a greater understanding of their purpose, their customers and how they add value.

This is a demanding role, so if you are a substantially experienced HR professional with an in-depth knowledge of human capital management who has worked in a similar senior role then we would like to hear from you. You will be a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (by examination) or hold a similar professional HR qualification or a relevant degree.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to attend an assessment centre on Thursday 15 April 2010. Interviews will be held during the week commencing 19 April 2010. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 26 March 2010.
