In this role you will

• be the Council’s principal legal adviser, ensuring that the best
interests of the Council are obtained and protected, and that
elected Members receive high quality support, to ensure sound
decision making, in all their various roles.
• contribute to the strategic direction of the Council, providing
advice on the scope of the Council’s powers and authority to
make decisions, and on whether Executive decisions are within
the agreed budget and policy framework.
• work closely with the Deputy Chief Executive, the Section 151
Officer, and the Chair of the Standards Committee, to ensure
that legal and financial probity, and ethical standards, are
maintained.

The candidate

• A qualified Solicitor or Barrister with significant post qualification
practice experience in a local authority or similar organisation.
• A strong, innovative leader, with energy and flair, credibility in
the field of performance management and a passion for
promoting Hull City Council.
• An outstanding negotiator and networker with the interpersonal
skills to relate effectively to staff, service managers, elected
Members and the public.
