Islington is a vibrant and dynamic borough. But it is also a place of extremes, with rich and poor living side by side. The borough is home to serious inequality and deprivation, with almost half of local children growing up in poverty – the second highest rate in the country. The council is focused on making Islington fairer by reducing the gap between rich and poor and making a difference to the lives of those in our community who most need our help.

With a hugely varying mix of needs and interests, keeping our 200,000 residents informed about council services can be a challenge. We need to engage residents, businesses and staff in our fairness agenda, as well as protect the council’s reputation and challenge customer perceptions.

We’re looking for an outstanding communicator, with top-class interpersonal and management skills. You should have the right mix of experience, determination and savvy to steer our communications department through a year in which the council has to make huge budget cuts, face an increase in demand for services and make the most of opportunities such as the Olympics. So you’ll also need to be able to perform at both a strategic and operational level.

The role isn’t for the faint-hearted. But for the right candidate, it’s an invaluable opportunity to prove themselves in a highly-rated inner-London council. You’ll lead a team of motivated and established professionals and be given the autonomy to truly make your mark.

If you think you’ve got what it takes, we’d love to hear from you. For more information about the role, please contact Emma Marinos on 020 7527 3467.
