Located in the centre of Strood, the Environmental Health Service provides a range of services covering food and safety and environmental protection disciplines. We are looking for two enthusiastic individuals who can think creatively and identify new approaches and solutions to delivering services. Working closely with the Environmental Health Manager and Head of Service, both officers will be fully qualified environmental health professionals with a minimum of 3 years postgraduate experience
Our Environmental Protection Team Leader has moved into a manager’s role at Medway and we are looking to recruit a new officer who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the environmental protection team. With a solid background in Environmental Protection you will be the lead professional for the team and make sure that it meets statutory requirements and the needs of our customers.
The team covers a broad range of functions including noise, pollution, drainage, pest control, IPPC work, air quality management and contaminated land. Members of the team also work closely with colleagues in licensing, planning and transport planning. The team have had recent involvement with an Interreg funded brownfield development project and there may be further opportunities of this kind as Medway’s ambitious regeneration programme takes shape.
Experience of managing staff is not essential but both roles require an effective communicator with excellent organisational skills and the ability contribute to service planning, prioritise the work of the team and monitor performance
We are committed to the development of our officers and we will help you realise your full potential by offering a supportive environment for you to build on your existing skills and gain from the experience offered by working for a unitary authority.
The council is committed to Work-Life Balance and we operate a flexible working system which allows staff to work hours that suit both the council’s interests and to those of the employee.
