Divisional Director Strategy c.£110,000
The Divisional Director Strategy will play a key role in providing the short, medium and long term strategy of the Regeneration, Planning and Property Directorate. This is a corporate role and represents the opportunity to set out a blueprint for this region of London for the next 20 years.
With a staff of circa 150, the objective of the Divisional Director Strategy, is to provide the vision for, and strategic direction of, the service. He/she will deliver a strategy that creates a high performing and continuously improving, strategic and operational service to ensure Newham’s communities benefit significantly from a current unprecedented level of regeneration activity and the maximisation of inward investment.
This post is not just about policy. Success will be delivered through the creation and the mobilisation of the right vehicles and delivery structures for Newham’s regeneration by providing clear direction on the Local Development Framework (LDF) and through effective representation on the LAA and MAA.
In addition the Divisional Director will ensure effective outcomes through assessing the service impacts and issues for the Council and the creating and delivering realistic, cost effective and timely plans to support the achievement of the Directorates objectives. This will be backed up by high quality, outcome focused, internal and external strategies and plans with effective monitoring, reporting and evaluation.
The ideal candidate will have the drive and project management skills to see the LDF planning process through to agreement and implementation. He/she will be committed and a pragmatist who can transition into delivery mode. He/she could have a planning background or extensive programme management experience but must be a good relationship manager and have an in-depth understanding of the democratic process in highly complex urban multi-cultural environments.
As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.
The Council reserves the right to close adverts early if there is a large response.
