Divisional Director Property
Newham Council has embarked on one of the largest regeneration programmes in the UK. The role of Divisional Director Property has been created to ensure a long term strategic approach to the development and effective delivery of the property portfolio. This new role will pull together the existing teams focused upon the council’s assets to ensure that a high quality service is provided to residents, partners, stakeholders and the commercial sector.
Supported by a staff of circa 20, he/she will have overall responsibility for the council’s property asset management plans; regeneration, land and property development; commercial property management; ratings assessment; and valuations and inspections.
He/she will act as the council’s property expert, working closely with internal and external agencies and partners to advise the council in all relevant areas, and provide specialist contribution and leadership towards the development and implementation of the council’s Property Asset Management Plans.
Given the high profile public nature of regeneration in Newham it is essential that applicants will have the commitment and drive to embrace the complexity of Newham’s regeneration agenda. He/she will be highly commercial with a diplomatic and political mindset and the ability to demonstrate a proven commercial track record in large scale property management. Strong leadership and a willingness to build strong and effective teams are essential.
Applicants must have a professional construction and/or property based qualification and will be working within the residential development/construction market. Ideally they will have a working knowledge of local government or the wider public sector although applicants will also be considered from the commercial sector.
As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.
The Council reserves the right to close adverts early if there is a large response.
