Divisional Director Major Sites

The Divisional Director Major Sites is a key role within the newly formed Regeneration, Planning and Property Directorate, and the new incumbent will be dedicated to the delivery of key economic and physical change, shaping how our borough grows and looks in the future. With a key focus on turning strategy into reality, the new Divisional Director will have direct responsibility for identifying land, working with and leading negotiations with partners and developers as well as developing the infrastructure of Newham. This role will have a major impact on the overall physical direction of Newham, its residents, businesses and local and pan-London partners.

He/she will develop the service to ensure it is fit for purpose to deliver key projects going forward. They will also conduct a scoping exercise, reviewing existing projects viability and provide a focus for delivery. Given the challenges of this post, performance management will be key to ensuring that all programmes of work on major sites are delivered on time and to budget.

The successful candidate could come from either the public or private sector with extensive project and programme management experience and possibly qualifications in planning or surveying. They will also have a strong track record in the development and delivery of a range of diverse regeneration programmes and corporate projects in an urban environment with the technical competency to develop complex agreements and partnership arrangements.

As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.
