This post provides an exciting opportunity to join and contribute to Blackpool’s Diversity Learning Team, from January 2009 or earlier if possible.

We wish to appoint a Diversity Liaison Officer to:

· Promote access to and inclusion into education for children from Gypsy, Roma Traveller backgrounds to enable them to participate fully and support them in the process of education to achieve maximum success at school and where applicable when electively home educated.
· Provide a link between the parents of Gypsy, Roma Traveller children and schools and the CSA
· Undertake outreach work to the families of Gypsy, Roma Traveller children in Blackpool and encourage and support families to take up education and other Blackpool services
· Promote Gypsy, Roma Traveller equality, diversity and rights· Build good relationships with Gypsy, Roma Traveller groups, co-facilitate groups so that their views can be used to inform planning and service

You should have:
· The ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a wide range of people
· The ability to work independently or as part of a team
· Knowledge and understanding of minority ethnic cultures
· Detailed knowledge of issues relating to Gypsy, Roma Traveller community
· Experience of working with children and families
· NVQ Level 3 or above (or equivalent)
