A great opportunity to support local democracy in Hillingdon.

This is a grade progression post and the offered salary will be dependent on experience.

We are looking for exceptional candidates to play a key role in the effective and efficient operation of the Council’s democratic and governance processes. Confident working with people, your main responsibilities will be: * Wide-ranging support to 65 Elected Members in their various roles;

  • Coordinating a range of Committee meetings to a high standard and ensuring open, legal and accountable decision making in line with our Constitution;
  • Engaging with local residents and partner organisations, actively involving them in local decision-making, in particular through our petitions process;
  • Assisting with the business critical day-to-day executive decision-making;
  • Research, production and commissioning of high quality reports to Members and Officers on a range of matters;
  • Support and champion the effective operation of the Policy Overview and Scrutiny function, shaping policy development and review at Member-Level; and
  • Be a functional lead on particular activities across the team and support wider corporate working across the Council.

About the person

With energy, good communication skills and the ability to think and act beyond traditional boundaries you will be well-organised with the ability to work flexible hours and be part of a highly regarded small team. You will have at least one year’s experience of working as a Democratic Services Officer or similar role. We also use the latest technologies to carry out our work, so good transferable ICT skills are essential in this role.

The position provides opportunities for career advancement by either starting at or progressing to lead positions in the team dependent on grade.
