We are looking to recruit an ambitious and enthusiastic individual to complement the scrutiny function and build on our success in scrutiny.
Your work will involve background research wide and varied topics. Politically aware, you will have a key role supporting committees in their work on policy development and holding the Executive to account.
Using the skills gained during your degree or work experience you will be producing reports and briefing materials for Councillors. This is a demanding position working in a high-profile political environment.
You will need to be able to grasp new ideas quickly and be confident in identifying, gathering and analysing a wide range of information.
You will have excellent research and IT skills and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. As the committees cover the full range of the Council’s services, policies and work with partners, you will need to liaise with colleagues at senior levels both inside and outside the Council.
You will be enthusiastic, flexible and creative and have the ability to tackle a wide range of tasks – often to tight deadlines – with minimal supervision. The post will involve evening meetings (for which you will be paid).
The post will also provide support for meetings through co-ordinating the preparation and despatch of agenda and papers to ensure that these processes meet statutory and local requirements.
The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 12 noon on 22nd March 2010.
Interviews will be held on 31st March 2010.
