Computer Buddies help library customers with ICT queries. (All libraries in Kent have computers for public use.)
Queries are mostly from customers with limited computer experience and tend to relate to Microsoft Word, Outlook and Explorer software. Helping customers develop CVs; format reports; set up email accounts; and use the internet, are typical queries.
All Computer Buddies require a good understanding of these three types of software. Patience; good communication and interpersonal skills; and enthusiasm are essential skills. The role focuses on helping the customer to learn more about computers, rather than taking over the problem.
Some customers seek help with digital photography and genealogy (libraries provide free access to www.ancestry.com ), but rarely for Excel and Access. Volunteers help customers of all ages. Read more about this in the Job Description below.
