This is an exciting time to work for the Marketing and Communications Team at Basildon District Council. The Basildon District is undergoing an enormous amount of change with investment taking place. The Council will be involved in improving residents satisfaction and helping to strengthen the local economy. You will be at the forefront delivering communications to Council employees, residents and businesses to ensure they are abreast of changes. The Team will communicate the positive results achieved by the Council and raise awareness across the region and UK. The Department has undergone a major reorganisation creating a number of new posts, including Communications Officer.

You will use a range of communication channels, including the media, publications and websites to promote a positive image of the Council. You will find creative solutions to communicate Council information to residents, businesses and employees.

Diplomatic in your approach, you will promote a positive and open working relationship with the media. You will develop interesting and concise press releases. It is vital that you are a team player to support the team to produce Council publications and the promotion of internal and external campaigns.

You will hold a qualification in writing or journalism, such as an NCTJ certificate. It is essential that you have experience as a writer in print or broadcast media setting along with experience or an understanding of local government.
You will be willing to travel in order to meet the needs of the service and have the flexibility to attend meetings outside of the normal office hours as required.
