Regeneration Communications Officer
PO3 - £37,629 - £39,459
Hackney Council is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated communications professional for a key new role in its award-winning Communications and Consultation team.
Reporting to the Housing Regeneration Communications Manager, this post has been created to support the Council’s growing and exciting housing aspirations, working as part of a team to deliver communications, media relations and stakeholder engagement to raise the Council’s profile and ensure residents are central to change.
A lack of affordable homes and rights for private renters are key concerns for Hackney’s residents, and addressing these issues are at the heart of the Mayor’s manifesto and the Council’s work. The Regeneration team are responding to the challenge – with one of the country’s biggest programmes of local authority-led housebuilding across the borough that will deliver around 9,000 new badly-needed homes for social rent, shared ownership and outright sale.
The successful candidate will have first-class writing skills to support this work, as well as significant understanding of media management, events and digital communications channels. Successful engagement with stakeholders – such as tenants, leaseholders and major developers – will be crucial.
The post-holder will work across the Communications and Regeneration service areas, and need to quickly establish strong working relationships in both. They will provide communications advice to officers and politicians and be expected to provide high-quality communications themselves – ranging from newsletters and engagement events to marketing campaigns and answering media queries.
They will have a track record of providing excellent communications support and operating successfully in a large and ideally political organisation. Experience of working in local government communications or the housing sector is preferable, but not essential.
Effective, joined-up working with other colleagues within the Communications and Consultation Team, particularly regards online, internal communications and design, will be essential.
