Communities Directorate. Preston City Council is committed to building a collective and common understanding of community cohesion among all stakeholders and communities. We have developed a process of full engagement and involvement with a wide range of groups within the community including involvement in decision making, bringing different communities together, increasing contact and trust between communities and developing capacity to deal with problems.

We also recognise work to prevent violent extremism (PVE) as part of wider Community Cohesion agenda and have developed a clear strategic framework that will support delivery of projects over the long-term and on a sustainable basis.

We are now looking for an experienced and committed individual to support the council on these complex and demanding agendas. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate significant knowledge and experience of both community cohesion and PVE work at a practical level. Experience of working with community groups and residents from a diverse range of backgrounds and in partnership with the police and other key agencies in the development and delivery of projects is also a key requirement.

Also highly desirable are excellent negotiation skills together with experience of commissioning processes (preferably with community groups) and communicating with local authority elected members.
