The post holder will be part of a team responsible for the effective management of a key part of the highway asset, carrying out routine, programmed and unplanned inspections of highway structures.

The structures range from small timber footbridges on public rights of way, to large highway bridges over navigable watercourses and railways.

This permanent position is based in our office in Kingston-upon-Thames but the work requires a considerable amount of time to be spent working in the field, often alone.

The post holder will need to be familiar with construction techniques generally and have a working knowledge of risk assessment techniques, lone working and site safety procedures.

You will be a good communicator and will deal directly with members of the public regarding reported defects as well as with internal colleagues.

The ability to travel county-wide is essential.

An HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, and experience in Civil Engineering with particular relevance to inspection and maintenance of highway assets are required for this post.
