Surrey County Council is looking for behaviour support assistants to work as casual staff in the south east of the county. Serving schools in Tandridge, Reigate and Banstead and Mole Valley.

Are you passionate about making a difference to children and young people who have behavioural, emotional and/or social needs?

Do you have some experience of managing children and young people who display challenging behaviours at times? As a BSA you will be working in schools across Key Stages 1 – 3 to support the work of the Behaviour Specialist Teachers.

Visiting schools across SE Surrey, you will work in mainstream schools to support the inclusion of children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. You’ll show confidence in helping children to manage their emotions and challenging behaviours so that they can safely access learning alongside their peers. You’ll model and share strategies with support staff and may help run small groups concentrating on the social and emotional aspects of learning. Back in the office you’ll be writing up reports, preparing for your allocated pupils and assisting the Behaviour Support Teachers by making resources.

Working across Key Stages 1 – 3, depending on experience, no two days will be the same. You’ll need plenty of patience, tenacity and initiative as well as good verbal and written communication skills and a calm and organised approach to your work. A sense of humour is important too! We can offer a supportive staff team, an induction package and working hours to suit your circumstances within the normal school working day.

There is no obligation on Surrey County Council as your employer to provide you with a guaranteed amount of work. You will not be expected to accept every request to work, however there is a requirement for you to accept reasonable requests to work on a regular basis.

A full driving licence and use of a car with the ability to travel around the county is essential.

An enhanced CRB disclosure and a Children’s and Adults barred list check will be required for this role.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Karen Kelland on 01737 737950.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Closing Date: 9 February 2012
