An opportunity has arisen for an individual with strong commitment to the civic traditions of the Lancaster District to join the City Council’s Mayoral Support team.

The Beadle acts as the Mayor’s attendant, Chauffeur and Mace Bearer on civic occasions. The role requires you to drive the Mayor and Mayoress to official engagements and to attend to their needs before, during and after all engagements.

You will be responsible for the Mayoral Chains and Insignia, act as Mace Bearer and Toastmaster as appropriate at civic functions.

A uniform will be provided which you will be required to wear at all times when performing official duties. You will also be responsible for valeting the mayoral car and ensuring that it is properly maintained and repaired.

Duties will also entail undertaking civic tours of Lancaster Town Hall for which training will be provided on the history of the insignia and Town Hall.

You must have the ability to establish a good working relationship with the Mayor each year and to provide them with an outstanding level of service and respect.

You will need to have a clean driving licence and will be required to pass a specific City Council driving test should you be successful at the interview stage.
