Do you enjoy working with people and communities helping them to take positive local action? Would you like to work with communities to support them to develop emergency plans, to protect against possible future emergencies? Could you inspire community members to undertake resilience based projects?

Since the Cotswold’s was severely hit by the July 2007 floods, we have been working hard with communities to encourage and support a self help approach to emergency preparedness. This successful service has worked with many communities to achieve a variety of projects including:

• Community Based Emergency Plans
• Community Watercourse Clearance Activities
• Community Places of Safety (for temporary evacuations)
• Flood Warden Schemes
• Snow Wardens

Supporting the full time Resilience and Riparian Officer, this role will involve working directly with communities and other partner organisations. A flexible approach and the ability to engage communities at a number of different levels are key to its success and the candidate must have good communication skills, be a team player and able to work using their own initiative.

A key aspect of this work will be to communicate with Riparian Landowners in relation to watercourse maintenance. Working to a Countywide protocol, you will need to assess the need for watercourse maintenance and communicate these requirements in a friendly but sometimes persuasive manner. This work is directed by the requirements of the Land Drainage Act and may also require the issuing of legal notices and future action as required.
