A fantastic Town Planning job has arisen at Epping Forest District Council for an Assistant Director (Forward Planning and Conservation.) The overall purpose of the job is to develop, manage and provide Forward Planning, Conservation and Landscape Services. The job is also responsible for the Council’s Country Care Team.

We are looking for someone who is passionate and enthusiastic about Forward Planning, Conservation, Countryside Management or Landscape issues. The successful candidate will get the chance to experience a wide range of duties from the day-to-day management of the team to managing a large budget and looking after the District’s entire 133 square miles of beautiful landscape.

Role
You will support the Director in the management of the Directorate to deliver the Council’s vision, priorities, policies and aims.
You will have specific responsibilities for
- The production and implementation of the Council’s Local Development Framework
- Economic development, including enhancement schemes and regeneration initiatives
- Expert advice in respect of preservation and enhancement of conservation areas and buildings, including the protection of trees
- The preparation of reports and documents. Participating in working groups and attendance at Committees
- Effective recruitment, organisation, performance management, development and motivation of all employees within the function
- Effective financial management of the functions budgets
- The management of Health and Safety issues within the function
Skills/ Experience
The successful candidate for the role will be able to demonstrate that they have:
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and Chartered Professional Status
- Effective communication skills with proven experience at communicating complex, contentious and sensitive matters verbally and in writing
- Able to function effectively over extensive working periods and deal with pressures arising from meeting deadlines for report and budget preparation
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
- Professional in depth knowledge in at least 5 of the following areas;
- Conservation of heritage assets
- Design
- Regional planning
- Local planning/LDF
- Countryside Mgt
- Project Mgt
- Hedges, trees & landscape
- Partnership Working
- Quality Assurance
- Management
- Development of ICT
