The Borough of Test Valley, situated in west Hampshire, has some of the most attractive villages and landscape in southern England, including the valley of the River Test itself. It also includes part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the north and borders the New Forest National Park in the south.
With 36 Conservation Areas and some 900 Tree Preservation Orders, the authority receives in excess of 600 tree works applications per year. As part of the Development Control Unit, the Tree Team makes an important contribution to the determination of development proposals.
Working within a small highly motivated team the post holder will be dealing with tree work applications and notifications, and planning consultations. Along with the making and revision of tree preservation orders, you’ll be expected to liaise with members of the public, planners and councillors as well as other sections of the Council.
With a minimum qualification of a National Diploma in Arboriculture, you’ll be confident and conversant with all aspects of arboriculture and tree protection legislation. A working knowledge of best practice in tree surgery work will be coupled with good communication and negotiation skills.
