The Council is keen to ensure the Apprenticeship Scheme offers on-the-job and part-time study opportunities that will help you make a real contribution to the work of the Council and the local community.
The London Borough of Redbridge Apprenticeship Scheme offers young people an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised, professional qualification whilst gaining valuable work experience within the Council. This means that you can learn while you earn.
We are looking for apprentices who want to start a career in Local Government, and are keen to offer this opportunity to as wide a cross-section of the community as possible. We actively welcome applications from young people from minority ethnic groups, from young women and from people with disabilities.
Libraries aren’t just about lending books. Redbridge Libraries are at the heart of the community and provide a service for up to half of the borough’s residents each year, helping to enhance people’s lives through our network of branches and services. It’s an exciting time to be part of the team, with many new service developments and improvements underway.
You’ll spend time working in many libraries across the borough throughout your apprenticeship and must be willing and enthusiastic about working with customers of all ages and undertaking a wide range of tasks. Working in libraries is both challenging and rewarding. There are many varied job roles across the service, all focussed on providing excellent customer service at all times.
The Libraries Apprentice will work across the borough’s libraries and will gain experience in the wider range of duties and tasks undertaken by library staff and librarians. A typical day could see you serving customers and issuing books, helping customers find information or use computers through to telling stories, supporting children with reading or homework and organising Wii leagues. You’ll also spend time working with our teams of librarians who are responsible for managing library materials and information, promoting libraries and the benefits of reading and organising events and promotions across the borough.
We also have an administrative team supporting the libraries across a broad range of issues. This team is also responsible for the purchasing of goods and supplies to the libraries, from cleaning materials through to books and DVDs. You’ll spend some time here to gain practical administrative skills and experience as well as technical skills such as cataloguing of library stock.
Finally you’ll work alongside members of the Library Management Team, supporting various projects, such as building refurbishments and how we make better use of ICT through to how we set policy and strategy for the service.
You will be required to work Saturdays on a rota basis and work until 8pm two evenings per week, for which you will be paid the appropriate enhanced payment.
Redbridge is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. These posts will require a CRB Disclosure check and references may be taken up prior to interview.
Interviews will be held on Friday 5th March and Monday 8th March.
