Islington Apprentice Scheme

The Islington Apprentice Scheme offers Islington residents aged 16 or over a contract of up to two years with the council to work as an apprentice. Successful candidates will receive training at a college one day per week, which will result in a nationally recognised qualification.
At the end of your apprenticeship, we’re confident that you’ll have the skills and experience to give you the edge over others with any employer.

Applications are open to candidates who:

  • are over 16 years old
  • are an Islington resident or will be a school leaver from an Islington school
  • have the right to work in UK
  • are not qualified to NVQ4 or degree level

Cambridge Education provides Islington schools with improvement and support services. The Business Development Service aims to expand our business by increasing our customers and penetrating new markets. It is also responsible for the management of our Professional Development Centre. The Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS) Team provides strategic direction in raising the achievement of Black and Minority Ethnic pupils; training and support to schools and direct interventions to tackle underachievement of specific groups of pupils. We are seeking an apprentice who will share their time between the Business Development and EMAS services.

To work with us you will need to be customer focused, working to school deadlines and meeting the service needs. The work will be varied, but you will be providing office administration support, working with databases and office systems, organising meetings, taking minutes and managing email and phone messages.

Your responsibilities will involve service user support and resolving issues and responding to enquires from Business Development or EMAS clients by telephone and email – requiring resourcefulness and reliance on your initiative on many occasions.

You will also be on hand to provide assistance to other services within Cambridge Education as and when required. The successful applicant’s contract will be directly with Cambridge Education.All Cambridge Education employees are subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.
