About the job

At Hillingdon we are leading the way in transforming our children’s services. We are currently piloting two exciting and innovative front line roles for the most advanced and specialist of social workers. As a key recommendation of the Munro review the advanced practitioner role is aimed at providing support to front line social work staffing areas of child protection, care proceedings and ongoing care planning for vulnerable children and young people. Managing what is often stressful, demanding and high risk child protection work.Your role will involve the indirect and professional supervision of social work practitioners whilst supporting the management of the most challenging and complex case work and addressing performance issues in conjunction with the line manager.

You’ll promote your leading expertise to partner agencies and be an inspirational member of the team. As a role model and mentor for the lesser experienced team members you’ll help to drive forward change and achieve excellence in social work practice at Hillingdon.

About the person

To be an Advanced Social Work Practitioner at Hillingdon you’ll be at the top of your game as a professional leader in your field. You’ll be able to draw on a range of empirical, theoretical and professional sources of knowledge and take the lead on social work policy and practice innovations. As an expert in your field with extensive front line child protection and court work experience you’ll bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise and be inspirational in your pragmatic approach managing diverse and complex cases To be successful you will need to be confident and competent in your ability to challenge and address key performance issues, be solution focussed and able to work under pressure to achieve positive change for vulnerable families without delay across Children’s Social Care. Your ability to mentor and coach inexperienced staff through court and complex case work will vital part to your success.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for someone who has attained the knowledge, skills and experience to move into management but wants to remain involved in front line practice whilst utilising the skills and competencies developed in assisting others to work to high standards.
